Since 2008 Chieftain vinyl contains Ciba IRGAGUARD B 5000, a silver based anti-microbial ingredient that has been proven to effectively counter-act against Clostridium Difficile (C.diff), MRSA and E-coli within any public seating environment.

The silver-based antimicrobial ingredient uses an ion exchange mechanism that slowly releases silver ions to interact with the micro-organisms bonding sites to prevent a wide spectrum of bacteria from reproducing.

Ciba IRGAGUARD B 5000 is incorporated into the vinyl at production stage.  It is not a surface treatment and therefore retains its effectiveness after regular cleaning.

Cleaning Instructions:

• Chieftain vinyls are resistant to most household stains, alkalis and drinks as they are not absorbed into the vinyl and can be wiped off without any problem or lasting damage provided they are cleaned in a timely manner to avoid any permanent damage.
  
  
• Regular cleaning with warm soapy water followed by a clean water rinse will help maintain its durability and aesthetics.
  
  
• Heavy, ingrained soiling may be removed by rubbing with a soft brush.
  
  
• Strong detergents, solvent cleaners, polishes or patent chemical cleaners should not be used as they are unnecessary and may cause embrittlement and cracking of the material.
  
  
• Special cleaning attention should be given to the cleaning of headrest and armrest areas as a build up of body oils in these areas will gradually cause the vinyl to harden.
  
  
• In cases where disinfection is necessary, the vinyl´s surface can be cleaned with a 5% solution of bleach in water. This should only be used occasionally as excessive use may damage the coated fabric. Care should also be taken not to abrade the vinyl against sharp corners as this too will affect the appearance possibly wearing away the design over time.
  
  
• For all cleaning use a clean absorbent white cloth, turning the cloth frequently to expose a clean surface. Use a dabbing action – do not rub or scrub the fabric. Always work from the outer edge of the stain towards the centre to prevent spreading the stain. Always rinse out shampoo with warm water, not hot water.
